SCAMP Scheme
Some people benefit from intensive short term programmes which help them learn or relearn basic skills necessary for daily living. The long term goal of enablement programmes is to prevent or reduce the development of complex, long term needs by effective early intervention
SCAMP Scheme© will enhance daily living skills by participation in 'real' activities, undertaken in 'real' settings, enabling individuals to live more independently throughout their adult lives and is designed for people with learning disabilities and/or enduring mental illness.
SCAMP Scheme© aims to provide a complete portable enablement service in a persons' own home, in our residential care setting or in any other environment where they will benefit from a short term enablement programme. We will work in partnership with other statutory agencies and families to develop effective progressive support.
When the need for enablement services is identified the person will be offered the opportunity to identify their own enablement needs which will lead the enablement programme. We believe that in order to achieve the maximum level of independence, the client must fully participate in planning enablement and have the opportunity to assess the effectiveness of the programme by the development of spontaneous and directed communication.
SCAMP Scheme© enhances daily living skills and increases opportunity to live in a more independent setting. For example, Cassiobury Court plans to offer two self contained studio apartments for people participating in the enablement programme. The long term goal is that this will lead to living independently with support from our domiciliary care service. In circumstances where someone is living independently and is finding it difficult to cope, our enablement service can be delivered in their own home. This reduces the number of enforced moves into other care settings which is disruptive, it can also provide support for people who need to move back into residential care when living independently is no longer an option.
SCAMP Scheme© offers its re-ablement services to any person following a comprehensive needs assessment. There is no upper age limit, however it is our intention to work closely with specialist colleges who have large numbers of students requiring on-going support and accommodation to further improve daily living skills and enhance quality of life. Enablement programmes can be developed alongside the transitional services that are provided to all young adults leaving education.
